It’s nearly time to wave goodbye to 2024. But before we do, let’s take a look back at what this year brought, both for Lumion and our community. Because together we’ve achieved some incredible things!
From expanding the capabilities of ray tracing and welcoming assets of all kinds to introducing real-time ray-tracing and significantly boosting performance—Lumion 2024 saw some exciting updates take place. We’ll also look back at some of our favorite renders created by you, our very own Lumion community.

New realms of realism
Ray tracing has been boosting the realism of your renders since we introduced our unified lighting system back in Lumion 2023.
But this year, its uses have been broadened significantly, so that it now encompasses nature, landscape grass, glass, translucent materials, and more.
See light at play in your scene
These enhancements capture intricate levels of detail, natural-looking shadows, true-to-life textures, and reflections that mirror real life. It even produces visually striking colored glass shadows that can instantly alter the ambiance of any scene.
More Assets. More Possibilities.
The Lumion Library is constantly expanding, offering you carefully curated asset collections to bring life, detail, and context to your designs—whether you're visualizing serene wellness spaces or bustling construction sites.
Sports-themed collection
Lumion 2024.1 introduced 147 sports-themed objects, characters, materials, and decals for populating and contextualizing any activity or leisure-related settings.
Animated characters
The next minor release—Lumion 2024.2—brought you 103 easy ways of adding dynamism to your designs, with its captivating range of animated characters.
Urban-themed collection
And since we love a theme, Lumion 2024.3 continued the series by curating a selection of 221 objects and 16 materials perfectly suited to urban and construction settings.
Stunning nature
On top of expanding ray tracing to over 2,000 nature assets, the library has grown with 100 carefully curated fine-detail trees and plants, offering even more ways to bring natural beauty to your scenes.
Effortless context
Lumion 2024 also made adding instant context to your scenes easier than ever, with parallax interiors and a stunning range of ready-to-use background panels. These tools allow you to quickly create realistic environments without the need to model and design every element from scratch. It's a smarter, faster way to add detail while staying focused on the bigger picture.
Parallax interiors
This collection of parallax interiors includes a versatile range of office, residential, and commercial spaces. Designed to save you time, these ready-to-use interiors can be easily added to your projects in minutes—bringing depth, realism, and context without the need for complex modeling.
Background panels
Introduced in Lumion 2024.3, these 35 backdrop panels let you effortlessly frame your projects in stunning settings, from woodlands and mountains to dynamic cityscapes. They make adding context easier than ever, while keeping the spotlight on your design.
An upgraded rendering experience
Enhancing your workflow has been a 2024 priority for the Lumion team. That’s why improvements were made to existing tools—and brand-new features introduced—to ensure your design process is as efficient and free of disruptions as possible.
As its popularity increased throughout the year, ray tracing saw some substantial workflow advancements to make the effect quicker and easier to work with.
With the introduction of the real-time denoiser NRD in build, photo, and movie modes, noise is significantly reduced in previews when using ray tracing. This gives you a clear, accurate view of your final render whenever you need it, ensuring smooth, speedy edits and quicker design decisions.
This also means that ray-traced movies of comparable quality can now be created up to five times faster than in previous versions!
A smoother workflow
From importing lights directly from your CAD software to smarter scene editing tools, Lumion 2024 streamlines your workflow, making every step of your creative process faster, easier, and more efficient.
Importing ligths
Since Lumion 2024.3, you can now import spotlights and omnilights straight from your CAD software, speeding up your workflow considerably.
Paint placement
Updated in Lumion 2024.3, the paint placement tool lets you paint up to 20 different models at once with a simple sweep of your mouse.
Landscape tiling
Perfect for shaping expansive terrains, the landscape tiling toggle in Lumion 2024's material editor removes visible tile outlines in one click, creating smooth, uninterrupted surfaces and adding realism to your projects.
Remove background
One of the latest additions in 2024.4, the new Remove Background effect enables you to isolate and focus attention on your design for clean, compelling visuals.
Performance power-ups
2024 has been a year of steady but impactful performance improvements. With each update—from real-time denoisers to reduced disk space—your Lumion experience has become smoother, faster, and overall more reliable.
