From the attic to the world
Lumion began with a simple idea and an ambitious start.
In 1998, in the Dutch city of Leiden, two young programmers with a passion for 3D graphics began building something new in a small attic filled with possibility. From those beginnings came years of innovation in real-time 3D software, pushing the boundaries of what digital visualization could achieve and helping shape the early future of graphics technology.
One of the most important milestones in that journey was Quest3D, a powerful real-time 3D engine used in applications ranging from simulation and training to television and film.
But it also revealed something bigger. It showed us that real-time technology could do more than power complex systems. It could help people communicate ideas with greater beauty, speed, and feeling. And nowhere was that potential more exciting than in architecture.
We believed architects deserved a visualization tool that matched the quality of their ideas, something intuitive, elegant, and capable of producing exceptional results without unnecessary complexity.
That belief became Lumion.
Launched in December 2010, Lumion was created to help architects turn imagination into atmosphere, emotion, and experience—quickly, confidently, and with freedom.
Today, Lumion is used by hundreds of thousands of people in over 180 countries, across three-quarters of the top 100 architecture firms worldwide.
